The souvenir object is an incomplete piece of displaced experience. It is made whole only when taken out of its original context and supported by the invention of a reflective narrative that can be repeatedly consumed.
Inspired by the romantic Budapest landscape and the vitality of present-day Hungarian identity, Souvenir Horizon is a theatrical interactive installation that represents a complex series of distinctions. The work heightens the interplay of interior and exterior inherent in the spacial character of LOOK, while further emphasizing the separate modalities of space such as: past vs. present, reality vs. fiction, monumental vs. minute, flexible vs. unyielding, and private vs. public.
Through the perspective of distanced experience and nostalgic longing, the work acts as a prompt to imagine ways to unify these divisions.
Opening: 15 December 2012 - 7 p.m.
